What is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)?
|
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct patient care by taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, assisting with activities of daily living, and observing and charting patient information. Graduates may be eligible to sit for the National Nurse Aide Assessment program (NNAAP) which determines competency to become enrolled in the State Nurse Aide Registry and, if successful on the exam, receive a certified nursing assistant (CNA) certificate. With the CNA credential, students can obtain an entry level health care position as certified nursing assistant, nurse aide, nurse assistant, geriatric aide, or hospital attendant.

Length of Program
|
Once all pre-requisites (1+ semesters) have been completed, the CNA course (NAST 1100) is only 1 semester.
NAST 1100 will be offered during TERM C for spring and fall semester.

Semester Program Begins
|
Alpharetta campus: Spring and fall, prerequisite courses will be offered in TERM B and NAST 1100 will be offered in TERM C. (CNA certificate completed in 1+ semester)
Lawrenceville campus: Spring, summer, or fall; Full or part time; Day program. (CNA certificate completed in 2+ semesters)

A current BLS-C Healthcare Provider card is required prior to this class. Class size is limited, so only those who have completed and passed all prerequisite classes with a grade of “C” or better will be considered for selection.

| Program Requirements |
Within the first two weeks of the NAST 1100 course, students will be required to provide evidence of standard immunizations, a background of check, and a drug screen at their own expense. Positive background checks or drug screens may prevent students from completing the clinical component of NAST 1100, resulting in failure of the course. For programs of study that have a clinical/lab component, the minimum age for admission must be at least 18 years of age. |

All costs are approximated and are subject to change and will be at the student’s own expense. This does not include tuition and registration related fees charged by Gwinnett Technical College. Tuition cost can be calculated at Fees and Expenses.
