Microsoft Office Application Professional Certificate Program Fact Sheet


What is Microsoft Office Application? The Microsoft Office Application Certificate is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students to provide administrative support within a variety of offices.  Knowledge of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases management.  Desktop Publishing and Presentation creation are included in this program.
Sample of reported job titles: Office Assistant • Administrative Assistant • Office Clerk • Office Manager •  Executive Administrative Assistant
Tasks:
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages.
  • Operate office machines, such as photocopies and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.
  • Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, take orders, and address complaints.
  • Create, maintain, and enter information into databases.
  • Set up and manage paper or electronic filing systems, recording information, updating paperwork, or maintaining documents, such as attendance records, correspondence, or other material.
  • Maintain and update filing, inventory, mailing, and database systems, either manually or using a computer.
  • Open, sort, and route incoming mail, answer correspondence, and prepare outgoing mail.

  2. Diploma level proficiency in English, reading and math required to graduate from this certificate. Please refer to course descriptions in the online catalog for specific prerequisites.
Semester Program Begins Fall, spring, or summer
Application Process Applicants to the Business Technology Program must meet all Admissions requirements; complete an application and pay the application fee. Individuals apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu and submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the ACCUPLACER test, if required.
Program Deadlines You may enter in the fall, spring, or summer terms.
