The Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) certificate is designed to serve several needs: (1) as a gateway to entry-level jobs in laboratories, (2) as an add-on certificate for Bioscience students, (3) as an add-on for other programs that might want to give their students familiarity with working with science and laboratories (for example, forensics in Criminal Justice), and (4) as an option to return to college to develop or improve lab skills for people employed in related industries. This certificate consists of six courses, two of which are presently Bioscience courses and one new course that will offer an introduction to GLP on a level that is accessible by people with a range of experience levels. Topics covered will include lab safety, lab calculations, validation and documentation, instrumentation, regulatory requirements, and especially critical thinking and problem solving in a lab setting.
Entry level jobs in pharmaceutical, biochemical and biotechnological industries, research assistant in general scientific laboratories, add-on for other programs such as forensics in Criminal Justice and Veterinary Tech to enhance job opportunities in these areas, develop or improve lab skills for people employed in related bioscience industry.
Students are required to have a High School diploma or GED and be a minimum of 16 years of age.
