What is Barbering? |
The Barbering program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the field of barbering. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention and advancement. At the completion of the program, the student will receive a barbering diploma and participate in the State Barber Board Examination, which has the authority to grant a Barbering license.
Sample of report job titles: Barber • Salon/Shop Manager • Salon/Shop Owner
Tasks:
- Specialized training in safety and sanitation.
- Specialized training in hair treatments and manipulations.
- Specialized training in haircutting techniques, shaving, and skin care.
- Specialized training in reception, sales, and management.

Prerequisites Courses |
Diploma level proficiency is required in English, reading, and math. Please refer to course descriptions in the online catalog for specific prerequisites.

Application Process |
Applicants to the Barbering program must meet all admission requirements; complete an application and pay the application fee. Individuals apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu, submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the ACCUPLACER test, if required. |
