CIST 1122 - Hardware Installation and Maintenance This course provides students with a comprehensive foundation in modern computer hardware, operating systems, networking technologies, and cybersecurity best practices. Emphasis is placed on current industry‑standard components-including mobile devices, cloud‑connected endpoints, virtualization platforms, and modern peripheral interfaces.
Students will learn to install, configure, secure, and maintain a wide range of hardware devices; troubleshoot system performance issues; implement safe and effective repair procedures; and apply structured problem‑solving techniques used by IT support professionals.
Additionally, students develop competencies in customer service, documentation practices, change management, and professional communication expected in help desk, field service, and technical support roles. This course aligns with the most current CompTIA A+ certification objectives and prepares students for modern IT support environments across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid infrastructures. Note: Students enrolled in this course will be assessed a $285 cost recovery fee in addition to tuition and fees. Fees can change at the end of the semester. Contact hours: Class - 2, Lab - 5.
