CIST 2480 - AWS Cloud Foundations


Prerequisite: Diploma level proficency in English and reading.
This course introduces students to fundamental cloud computing concepts with a comprehensive overview of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and its core architectural principles. Based on the AWS Academy Cloud Foundations curriculum, the course is designed for learners seeking a broad understanding of cloud technologies regardless of technical background or job role. Students explore key cloud concepts including global infrastructure, shared responsibility, cloud economics, elasticity and scalability, virtualization, high availability, and basic architectural best practices. The course covers essential AWS services across compute, storage, networking, databases, content delivery, identity and access management, and security. Additional topics include cloud security fundamentals, compliance frameworks, cost management tools, pricing models, and AWS support options. Through hands-on labs and guided activities, students gain experience navigating the AWS Management Console, launching virtual instances, exploring S3 storage, configuring IAM users and policies, and interacting with foundational cloud services. The course prepares students for cloud‑related learning pathways and provides the knowledge needed to pursue the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification. It is ideal for students exploring cloud careers in IT support, networking, security, data center operations, and solutions architecture.
