SURG 1080 - Surgical Microbiology Prerequisite: Program Admission; Corequisite: SURG 1010 and SURG 1020 Introduces the fundamentals of surgical microbiology. Topics include: historical development of microbiology; cell structure and theory; fluid movement concepts; microbial function; human and pathogen relationships; microscopy; culture media; staining methods; infectious processes types of microorganisms; blood borne and air borne pathogens; defense microorganisms; host -microbe relationships; infection control; principles of microbial control and destruction immunology; inflammatory process pathogenicity and process of Infection; hypersensitivity and immunologic defense mechanisms.
