Master Barber Certificate Program Fact Sheet


What is Barbering?

The Barbering program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in the field of barbering. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, hair treatments and manipulations, haircutting techniques, shaving, skin care, reception, sales, and management. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the Georgia State Board of Barbering. The program graduate receives a Master Barber certificate and is employable as a barber, salon/shop manager, or a salon/shop owner. At the completion of the program, the student will receive a Master Barber certificate and participate in the State Barber Board Examination, which has the authority to grant a Barbering license

Application Process Applicants to the Barbering program must meet all admission requirements; complete an application and pay the application fee. Individuals apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu, submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the ACCUPLACER test, if required.
