Magnetic Resonance Imaging Specialist Certificate Program Fact Sheet

What is an MRI Specialist? |
An MRI specialist performs diagnostic imaging examinations using magnetic resonance imaging. Candidates for this program must be a registered Radiologic Technologist, registered Radiation Therapist, registered Sonographer, or registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist in good standing. Length of Program |
Two semesters; Program courses must be taken in sequence within the prescribed time frame.

Semester Program Begins |
Fall semester; Class time: 2 days/week; Clinic time: 2-4 days/week
|
Application Process |
- Apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu and submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work.
- Submit transcripts showing completion of a Radiography, Radiation Therapy, Sonography, or Nuclear Medicine program.
- Submit proof of active ARRT status (R, N, T, or S) or active NMTCB status (CNMT) or active ARDMS (Abd or OB/Gyn).
- Applicants meeting criteria are accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

Prerequisite Courses |
Candidates for this program must be a registered Radiologic Technologist, registered Radiation Therapist, registered Sonographer, or registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist in good standing.

Program Deadlines |
For Fall semester admission, all application steps must be completed by May 20.
|
Program Requirements |
- A complete background check and drug screen must be completed. This is through an agency approved by Gwinnett Tech and will cost approximately $80.
- Proof of appropriate immunizations must be supplied to Gwinnett Tech.
- MR safety screening must be completed.

Program Costs and Requirements |
Uniform scrubs, shoes, books, liability insurance, criminal background checks and drug screening, immunizations for hospital clinicals, and ARRT testing fee. All costs are approximated and are subject to change.
