A.S. Criminal Justice Program Fact Sheet

What is an A.S. Criminal Justice?	The associate of science degree in Criminal Justice provides a solid foundation in general education and criminal justice that prepares students for entry-level employment in a variety of criminal justice fields or for continued education toward a baccalaureate degree. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Graduates may pursue additional education opportunities at senior institutions or pursue entry level positions in fields related to law enforcement, security (private or public), loss prevention, court administration, social services, or in a variety of fields that require a dedication to duty and commitment to public safety.
Prerequisite Courses	FYES 1000 Degree level proficiency is required to take degree level General Education courses. Diploma level proficiency in English and Reading is required to take the CRJU courses. Please refer to course descriptions in the online catalog for specific prerequisites.
Length of Program	4 semesters (minimum)
Semester Program Begins	Spring, summer, and fall semester
Minimum Age Requirement	16 years of age at the start of program
Application Process	Applicants to the A.S. Criminal Justice program must meet all Admission requirements; complete an application and pay the application fee. Individuals apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu, submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the Accuplacer test, if required.

Program Requirements	Upon graduation from the A.S. in Criminal Justice program, students must seek external certification from the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council to be employable as police officers.
