Criminal Justice AAS Program Fact Sheet


What is Criminal Justice? The Criminal Justice Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for criminal justice professions. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of criminal justice theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Entry-level positions in corrections, security, investigative, and law enforcement fields.
Prerequisite Courses
  1. Degree level proficiency is required to take degree level General Education courses.
  2. Diploma level proficiency in English and reading is required to take the CRJU courses. Please refer to course descriptions in the online catalog for specific prerequisites.
Length of Program 5 semesters (minimum)
Semester Program Begins Spring, summer, or fall semester.
Minimum Age Requirement 16 years of age at the start of program.
Application Process Apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu, submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the ACCUPLACER test, if required.
Suggested First Classes
Program Requirements Program director approval is required before registration of the practicum or externship (CRJU 2090  / CRJU 2100  ).

A criminal background check will be completed prior to the first day of the practicum or externship (CRJU 2090/ CRJU 2100) by most criminal justice agencies. Failure to complete and pass this criminal background check to the satisfaction of the internship site will prohibit the externship experience and result in a failing grade preventing the student from completion of the program.
