Medical Front Office Assistant Certificate Program Fact Sheet


What is a Medical Front Office Assistant? The Business Technology Medical Front Office Assistant Certificate is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students to provide support in a medical office.  Students will learn document formatting, anatomy and medical terminology.  Aspects of medical billing, coding and insurance processing will be covered.

Tasks:
Answer telephones and direct calls to appropriate staff.
Schedule and confirm patient diagnostic appointments, surgeries, or medical consultations.
Operate office equipment, such as voice mail messaging systems, and use word processing, spreadsheet, or other software applications to prepare report, invoices, financial statements, letters, case histories, or medical records.
Maintain medical records, technical library, or correspondence files.
Process payments from patients.
Greet visitors, ascertain purpose of visit, and direct them to appropriate staff.
Prerequisite Courses FYES 1000  
Diploma level proficiency in English, reading and math required to take most BUSN technical courses. Please refer to course descriptions in the online catalog for specific prerequistes.
Length of Program Certificate: 3 semesters minimum
21 Credit hours
Semester Program Begins Fall, spring, or summer
Application Process Applicants to the Administrative Support Assistant certificate must meet all Admission requirements; complete an application and pay the application fee. Individuals apply to Gwinnett Technical College at GwinnettTech.edu and submit all transcripts from high school and previous college work, and take the ACCUPLACER test, if required.
